Jeevan Jyothi Mahila Abhiruddhi Samasthe
Established in 2007, Jeevan Jyothi Mahila Abhiruddhi Samsthe (JJMAS) has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for vulnerable communities in Kalaburagi district, Karnataka. The organization began with a vision to support women in sex work (WSWs), high-risk groups (HRGs), and self-help group (SHGs) women, enabling them to lead dignified and sustainable lives.
In its initial years, JJMAS focused on mobilizing and organising women from marginalized communities, providing them with livelihood opportunities, health awareness, and social support. Recognizing the severe impact of HIV/AIDS among sex workers, the organization began aligning its mission with targeted health interventions to prevent the transmission of the disease and reduce stigma.
JJMAS operates in 10 taluks of Kalaburagi district, namely Kalaburagi, Afzalpura, Alanda, Chincholi, Sedam, Chittapura, Jewargi, Shahabad, Wadi, and Kalagi. Its grassroots presence across villages, panchayats, and blocks has enabled the organization to reach thousands of women and HRGs, creating a transformative impact. With over 15 years of service, Jeevan Jyothi Mahila Abhiruddhi Samsthe has grown into a trusted community-based organization, bridging gaps in health, livelihoods, and social justice. JJMAS envisions a future where marginalized individuals, particularly sex workers and SHG women, achieve holistic development and live empowered lives free from discrimination and poverty.
